Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre

Solar Solution for Council

Stretching from the iconic shores of Palm Beach down to Manly, the Northern Beaches region is home to over 266,000 residents and more than half of all the beaches in Sydney.

Project Challenges

The Northern Beaches Council is committed to preserving this pristine environment, making proactive action against climate change a core strategic priority. This commitment is formally laid out in the Council’s Climate Change Strategy 2040, which mandates significant steps towards reducing operational emissions and increasing the use of renewable energy across its portfolio.

A major challenge in achieving these goals lay in retrofitting energy-intensive public facilities. The Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre, a vital community hub and one of the Council’s largest energy consumers, required a substantial, reliable, and high-impact solar solution to dramatically reduce its electricity demand from the grid and demonstrate renewable energy leadership.

Our Solution

We designed and installed a 265kW solar PV system on the roof of the Manly Andrew ‘Boy’ Charlton Aquatic Centre. This installation represents one of the largest single solar systems deployed across the Northern Beaches region, signifying a major milestone in the Council’s renewable energy transition.

A crucial aspect of the project delivery was the execution of the installation within a specified, restricted time period. We ensured that the complex project was completed seamlessly and efficiently without any disruption to the centre’s daily operations, allowing the community facility to remain fully operational for its thousands of users throughout the process.

Next Green Group were able to complete the work speedily, they also were very adaptable to our every changing requirements and undertook the work in a public building outside normal business hours, with minimal disruption to staff and the public. It is very easy to deal with the team.
