Pacific National Brisbane Freight Terminal

LED Lighting Upgrade for Freight Terminal

As Australia’s largest freight rail company, Pacific National plays a vital role in the national supply chain, transporting goods across vast distances. Its Brisbane Freight Terminal site is a critical operational hub, with a complex and dynamic environment that includes high-traffic rail lines, vehicle crossings, and intricate loading areas operating 24/7.

Project Challenges

Pacific National aimed to upgrade the outdated lighting at its Brisbane Freight Terminal. The primary objectives were to improve visibility for train drivers and on-site staff, enhance safety around level crossings and rail lines, and reduce the high operational costs associated with outdated lighting. The project was highly complex due to the terminal’s continuous operations, strict work health and safety (WH&S) regulations, and the need to meet specific lighting compliance levels for safe and efficient operations. Meticulous planning was required to ensure the upgrade could be executed without any disruption to the live rail and freight movements.

Our Solution

Next Green Group was engaged to deliver this critical LED lighting upgrade. We began with a detailed site audit and a custom lighting design to ensure all project goals were met. Our solution involved a complete overhaul of the terminal’s lighting, replacing outdated fixtures with high-performance, industrial-grade LED flood lights.

Our project management team conducted meticulous planning and scheduling to ensure zero disruption to Pacific National’s 24/7 operations. By working in close coordination with on-site staff, we executed the installation safely and efficiently, always adhering to the highest WH&S standards. The new lighting not only met but exceeded the required lighting levels, significantly improving visibility for train drivers and on-site personnel and enhancing overall operational safety.

In addition to the operational benefits, this upgrade delivered significant energy and cost savings, with the highly efficient LEDs drastically reducing power consumption. This also led to a significant reduction in maintenance costs due to the extended lifespan of the LED fixtures. The project further contributed to Pacific National’s sustainability goals by reducing its carbon footprint, demonstrating a commitment to both operational excellence and environmental stewardship.
